Bike wont start

I have an '05 999s that when you turn key to position key icon & the word code appear on the LED readout . The bike had been started 3 times previously that day . It seems that the ignition does not recognise the key . much later that day (7 hours ) & after using spare & red key , it started with the original key . Is there a symptamatic problem with these bikes & is there an easy fix ...
